By: Tupaki Desk | 25 July 2025 11:04 AM ISTTech giant Meta has dropped one of its most significant technological advancements when it comes to wearable smart devices and here is allocated to the story behind the.
Meta has unveiled a groundbreaking wristband that lets users control computers using hand gestures without even needing to move their fingers. This futuristic device, developed by Meta Reality Labs, is called the sEMG-RD wristband and uses surface electromyography (sEMG) technology.
It works by detecting electrical signals from the muscles in the forearm. These signals are sent by the brain when a person intends to move their fingers or hand. The band can pick up these tiny signals even if the hand stays still and turn them into digital commands.
With this wristband, users can perform actions like moving a mouse cursor, clicking, typing, swiping, rotating their wrist, or even writing in the air. It allows air-writing at a speed of about 20.9 words per minute. The wristband doesn’t need individual calibration because it has been trained on data from over 10,000 users, making it work immediately on most hands.
Meta says this technology could change how people interact with devices, especially in virtual and augmented reality environments. Instead of traditional keyboards or touchscreens, users could soon control computers and AR glasses with just gestures. This could make digital interaction faster, more intuitive, and accessible for everyone.
