And just when everyone thought the administration was going easy on deportations in the recent times, a pretty significant announcement has come up from the trumpet administration.
Tom Homan, appointed by President Donald Trump as the administration’s border czar, has pushed back against claims of mass deportations, saying federal immigration authorities are carrying out focused enforcement, not broad crackdowns.
Speaking amid rising political and public tension, Homan said Immigration and Customs Enforcement is conducting targeted operations aimed at individuals with criminal records or those who already have removal orders. According to him, this approach has been standard practice for decades and is not a new or extreme policy shift
He categorically stated that the Trump administration is firm on illegal immigrants and will continue to crack down, which is an indication that mass deportations will continue in the future as well.
Homan’s comments come as enforcement activity in Minneapolis has drawn sharp criticism from local leaders and immigrant rights groups. Recent incidents, including fatal shootings during federal operations, have intensified scrutiny and sparked protests.
In response, Homan said officers have been instructed to act professionally and avoid unnecessary confrontations, warning that misconduct will be addressed internally
He also indicated that the heavy federal presence in Minnesota could be reduced if state and local authorities cooperate more closely with federal agencies, particularly by allowing access to county jails.
The Trump administration has accused some city leaders of obstructing enforcement, while local officials argue the operations create fear and instability in their communities.
