By: Tupaki Desk | 21 Oct 2026 9:47 AM ISTPrime Minister Narendra Modi is known for using major public events to deliver political messages without directly naming his targets. His speech during the Dussehra celebrations in Delhi was another example. While calling on people to defeat forces that threaten the country, Modi’s remarks have raised questions about whom he was indirectly referring to.
Nation First: Modi’s Strong Message
Speaking at a Ravan Dahan event in Delhi’s IP Extension, Modi stressed the importance of putting the nation first. He described forces that weaken national pride, divide society and show hatred towards Indian culture as challenges that must be confronted.
His message went beyond the traditional meaning of Dussehra. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, and Modi used this theme to highlight the need to protect India’s unity, culture and national interests.
Lord Rama as an Example
Modi also referred to Lord Rama as an example of good governance. He said the idea of Ram Rajya continues to represent a system where people receive justice, equal opportunities and welfare without discrimination.
He urged citizens to follow Rama’s ideals and work towards two major national goals: Viksit Bharat, or a developed India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, or a self-reliant India.
A Message With a Political Meaning?
Modi’s remarks have attracted attention because of the political and social developments taking place in the country. Although he did not name any particular organisation or political group, his references to divisive forces and those who allegedly disrespect Indian culture have encouraged political observers to examine the possible implications.
The timing and choice of words make the speech interesting from a political perspective. However, identifying a specific target without clear evidence would be premature.
RSS Chief’s Warning Adds Another Dimension
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also spoke about forces that he believes are trying to weaken India, Hindu society and the RSS. His comments about international developments and alleged attempts to undermine Indian institutions added another dimension to the discussion.
Both leaders emphasised national unity and the need to counter forces they consider harmful to the country. Whether their remarks were aimed at specific political opponents or reflected a broader ideological position remains open to interpretation.
Modi’s words may have carried a deeper political message, but the real question is whether his intended audience will recognise themselves in it. Sometimes, the sharpest political arrows are those released without naming anyone.
