This event marked Sanchez's first visit to India in 18 years, and the two leaders participated in a 2.5-kilometer roadshow prior to the inauguration. The new facility will manufacture 40 C-295 aircraft under a significant agreement, with Airbus supplying 16 of these aircraft directly. This complex represents India's first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft.
During the inauguration, both leaders emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration in enhancing India's defense capabilities. The establishment of the TASL facility is expected to bolster the local aerospace industry and create numerous job opportunities, aligning with India's broader goal of self-reliance in defense manufacturing. This initiative is also seen as a step towards strengthening bilateral ties between India and Spain, particularly in the defense sector.
Sanchez's visit included discussions on various topics, including trade, investment, and technology transfer between the two nations. The Spanish Prime Minister expressed optimism about future collaborations that could benefit both countries economically and strategically. The inauguration of the aircraft complex is a tangible outcome of these diplomatic efforts.
Modi and Sanchez's joint venture is part of India's ongoing push to modernize its defense forces while fostering international partnerships. The C-295 aircraft are designed for tactical transport missions, and their production in India signifies a commitment to advancing indigenous defense capabilities while enhancing cooperation with international allies.
