Mohammed Shami's Inspirational Journey To Arjuna Award!

Senior Indian pacer Mohammed Shami who had a terrific time in 2023 received a big honour as he was presented with the Arjuna Award. This is the prestigious Award for athletes which is given for the highest sportsmanship. He received the award from President Draupadi Murmu.

While Shami is getting the applause for the award. The path to this is not easy for him. He was not selected for the World Cup in the playing XI. He joined the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who sustained an injury.

In his first World Cup match in 2023, Shami provided the breakthrough and even in the Semis, he was the leading wicket-taker. With his heroics, India managed to defeat New Zealand in the semis after a long back. Shami was the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets.

In just seven matches he played Shami picked 24 wickets. Overall, Shami has 55 wickets in just 18 matches. This speaks volumes about the accuracy of Shami as a bowler.

Shami had not so a good time in his personal life. His wife made serious allegations including match fixing. As an inquiry was going on his contract with BCCI was kept under hold and he was not part of the Indian squad for a few months. His wife applied for a divorce.

But that did not bring down Shami’s morale. When his contract was put on hold Shami worked hard in his farmhouse as he built a small pitch for the practice. He worked hard and practiced more to be more accurate with the bowl. Injuries also played a big role in his brief in action in the game.

As they say comeback is always stronger than a setback, Shami had a glorious comeback and there is no looking back. Shami was part of the team that won many important series at home and overseas. Though India could not win the Test Championship and the World Cup hosted at home, Shami always shined as a bowler. This is his inspirational journey from facing issues to winning the Arjuna Award.
