The 2008 Mumbai Terror Attack is one of the most deadly attacks India faced. The attack is also called the 26/11 Terror Attack. Coordination attacks and bombings were carried out by the Lashkar-e-Taiba militants. While some of the culprits were caught already the fight is underway to extradite others.

Pakistan-origin Tahawwur Rana is facing allegations of funding the attacks. India has been trying hard to bring him here. As a shot-in-the-arm effort, a US Court said that he could be extraditable to India.

It is known that India and the US have an extradition treaty under which the wanted criminals can be extradited. Earlier California district Court dismissed the habeas corpus petition Tahawwur Rana. With this, he moved the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to challenge the decision.

Media reports say that Tahawwur Rana can be extradited to India. While giving the verdict the panel of judges said that India provided the required documents to prove the allegations. Reports say that Tahawwur Rana still has a chance to challenge the decision.

Rana is serving a jail term at a detention centre. A US district court earlier convicted him of charges of providing support to a terrorist organisation. Since then he has been spending time at the detention centre. If he can be extradited to India then it would be a big success on India’s part to get him here.

The 2008 Mumbai attacks left as many as 175 people dead including nine attackers. Around 300 people sustained injuries in the attack. Attacks occurred at eight different locations including Taj Hotel.
