The Kashmiri Pandits went through a tough time in the 90s in the valley as they were persecuted and attacked. With no option left, the majority of them left the valley while those who stayed there were attacked. Those who don't know about them got to learn about their traumatic situations with The Kashmir Files.

Now a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir made some key comments and said that everyone was born a Hindu in India. Talking about Muslims in the valley, he said that the majority of them were converted from Hinduism. He asked from where Muslims came in Kashmir hundreds of years back.

Reacting to the comments of a few BJP leaders that a few Muslims came from outside, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the theory is not correct. He said that only a small portion of them might have come here but the rest of them were converted.

He was in the Doda district to take part in a gathering. Addressing them, the ex-CM said only 10 to 20 percent of them might have come to India and some of them even worked in the Mughal army. The rest of them were converted.

"All other Muslims converted from Hinduism in India. An example of this can be found in Kashmir. Who were the Muslims in Kashmir 600 years ago? All were Kashmiri Pandits. They converted to Islam. All are born into this religion," the ex-CM said.

Talking about Hindus and Muslims, Azad said that when Hindus are burnt, their ashes are mixed in water they(Muslims) drink the water. Muslims also become a part of the soil as their flesh and bones go into the soil. Their flesh becomes a part of Bharat Mata's soil. Hindus and Muslims both merge into this land. What difference is there between them?Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

Ghulam Nabi Azad’s comments created a political controversy with everyone reacting to this. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti did not like what he said and asked what knowledge he has to pass such comments. She made these comments to take a dig at him.

On the other hand, Right-wing organisations like Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal reacted to his comments and supported him. They said that what he said is right and they have been typing to say this and now the ex-Chief Minister had said it.
