Gen Alpha Wave: Why Is Nepal Protesting? What Happened To PM?

Nepal is one of these small countries in the Asian continent, and it finds itself in the middle of several political debates ever so often. Very recently, there was this massive public protest in Nepal, which resulted in the change of governments.

The younger generation of the public, which is popularly regarded as the Gen Z protested against the incumbent government and gave rise to a new government. They collectively elected Balendra Shah as the new Prime Minister of the country.

The fundamental point to be noted here is that Nepal's Balen Shah rose to power on a wave of youth-led protests against corruption. However, things are not going smoothly for him as less than four months into office, that same generation is turning against him.

Since April, the government's eviction drive has demolished the homes of more than 2,600 families along Kathmandu's riverbanks, displacing more than 15,000 people. This became a huge topic of protest and people started taking it to the streets to express their dissent with the new government.

That anger boiled over when a cab bike driver set himself on fire after Kathmandu police clamped his motorcycle's wheel over an alleged parking violation, and his death has now brought Nepal's Gen Z back onto the streets.

The interesting thing is that this Alpha generation is also adding to this protest and they happen to be the future of the country. This is a pretty strong consequence on the political and social level as Nepal could be burning further, if the situation does not come under control.

It has been barely six months since a new government has been informed here and it appears that the new prime minister Balendra Shah has already started to face the heat from his own people.
