Israel might be a very small country by geographical metric, but they are one of the global superpowers when it comes to controlling the global politics. Now the Prime Minister of the country Benjamin Netanyahu has made a very interesting comment regarding the connection with the United States.

In his latest interaction with the global media, the Israel PM made a very strong set of comments against the US.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel should begin phasing out American financial assistance, arguing that the country's economy has grown strong enough to fund itself without external support.

Speaking on Tuesday, Netanyahu said he wanted the process to begin this year while also outlining his government's position on key security and foreign policy issues, including Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and Palestinian statehood. “I want to stop American aid. It's like welfare, I don't want it,” Netanyahu said.

Adding further on this matter, Netanyahu said “Our economy is no longer a small economy. we can finance ourselves with this fraction of a per cent of our GDP that we receive from the United States. I want this process to start this year.”

The comments mark a dramatic change in Israel’s stand on the United States. For decades, US military aid, currently around $3.8 billion annually, has been a strong incentive of Israel’s security relationship with the country and enjoyed strong financial support in the US.

Now that Israel Prime Minister has publicly said he no longer need the support of the United States, it has to be seen how this would play out with Donald Trump.
