A New York-to-Delhi American Airlines flight was diverted to Rome after a bomb threat according to airport officials.

Flight AA292 departed from JFK International Airport on February 22 and was scheduled to land in New Delhi. However due to security concerns, the Boeing 787-9 carrying 199 passengers and crew was redirected to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that authorities received an alleged bomb threat, leading to the emergency landing. Upon arrival, the plane was escorted by two fighter jets following standard security protocols. The aircraft landed safely at Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport and passengers were assisted after deboarding.

American Airlines confirmed that safety is their top priority and thanked passengers for their patience. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the flight crew reported a security issue before landing in Rome.

Despite the diversion, airport operations were not disrupted. Videos shared on social media showed the plane being escorted by Italian Air Force jets before its safe landing.

Flight tracking data indicated that AA292 left New York at 8:14 PM on February 22 and was expected to reach Rome around 5:30 PM local time. Authorities are investigating the bomb threat but no further details have been provided.
