Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister in Narendra Modi’s government needs no introduction. She hails from Tamil Nadu and was married into a Telugu family. The successful Finance Minister often hits the headlines with her attire and comments. She is known for her speaking skills. Now she made some interesting comments. She had decided to stay away from the general elections. She gave an unexpected answer to the question of why she took the decision.

She said that she doesn't have the required funds to contest the elections and hence she conveyed the same to Party National Chief JP Nadda. After thinking for a week to ten days I told him that I may not contest the elections, she said. “Be it AP or Tamil Nadu I have an issue. Caste and Religion play a big role in the elections. I cannot do all that. That’s why I told them that I won't contest. It's great that they agreed with my arguments. I will campaign for other contests in the party,” the Minister said.

She was asked whether she doesn’t have the funds to contest the elections as she takes care of the Budget worth Lakhs of crores as the Finance Minister. To this, she gave an elaborate answer. “My salary, my funds, and my savings belong to me. But the Consolidated Fund of India is not mine right?” she said.

Talking about the BJP, it is fielding a few Rajya Sabha members in the elections. It is said that the party is considering the likes of Piyush Goyal, Bhupender Yadav, Chandrasekhar, Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and others for this. Contrary to this, Rajya Sabha member Nirmala Sitharaman’s reaction is different.
