Beware NRIs, Even Green Cards Are Not Fully Safe!

The Indian community that has been staying in the United States has been largely volatile in the recent months after the onset of the Donald Trump administration. Every single immigration and Visa issue and regulation has been tightened to the fullest now.

The same can be understood if we look at the fact that a female NRI had to undergo peculiar situation after the immigration authorities stopped her at the check point and posed a threat to her green card process.

Reportedly, a woman was deported from the U.S. even though her green card process had been approved. She had received her PERM which is a step in getting a green card, but while waiting for the actual green card, she traveled outside the country.

When returning through Puerto Rico, she forgot to bring her original travel permit and only had a scanned copy that her husband sent her. Immigration officers did not accept the photocopy. They accused her of trying to enter with a fake document and sent her back, even though her documents were real.

Because of this, she and her husband now have to start the entire green card process again, which could take years and cost them a lot of money.

This situation shows how strict U.S. immigration rules are and how even small mistakes, like not carrying the original document, can lead to serious consequences like deportation.
