One of the leading companies in the world Oracle has started to fire its employees at an elevated pace and things are extremely complacent for now. But now there are a series of speculations happening on the same.

Oracle has carried out one of its largest layoffs in decades, cutting thousands of jobs as part of a major restructuring tied to cost‑cutting and heavy investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Reports suggest the total could be around 30,000 roles eliminated globally, including significant numbers in the United States, India, and other regions. Employees were notified suddenly, often via early‑morning emails stating their roles were eliminated effective immediately, with severance offered only after paperwork was signed.

Amid this upheaval, a former Oracle employee with over 30 years’ service has shared a viral LinkedIn post suggesting that the layoffs did not appear random.

She wrote that it “seems layoffs follow an algorithm targeting high‑level individual contributors and mid‑level managers especially those with outstanding stock options,” implying that employees with high compensation and unvested equity were disproportionately affected. This concern has been echoed by other laid‑off workers online.

The allegation doesn’t mean an official algorithm has been confirmed; rather, it reflects employee speculation about patterns in who lost their jobs. Many affected professionals including experienced engineers, managers and long‑tenured staff have raised similar questions about how decisions were made.

Meanwhile, the broader tech industry is experiencing widespread layoffs as companies redirect resources toward AI and cloud investments, even while reporting strong financials in some areas.

Oracle’s approach cutting headcount while investing heavily in AI data centers has drawn particular criticism and debate about its strategy and the human cost of these decisions.
