By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Jan 2026 11:34 AM ISTThe valuation of the Indian passport for the year 2026 has been updated and let’s have a look at the same now. In 2026, the Indian passport shows gradual improvement in global travel freedom, but it still remains far behind the world’s strongest passports.
India is ranked around 80th globally, with Indian citizens able to travel to about 55 destinations without needing a prior visa, either through visa free access, visa on arrival, or electronic travel authorization. Compared to previous years, this marks a modest rise and reflects India’s expanding diplomatic engagement and growing global presence. However, the gap between India and top ranked countries is still very wide. Singapore continues to hold the top position, offering its passport holders access to more than 190 countries with minimal entry restrictions.
Japan and South Korea follow closely, each allowing travel to nearly 190 destinations. Several European nations such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden also rank among the top, with visa free or easy access to around 185 countries. When compared directly, Indian passport holders enjoy access to barely one third of the destinations available to citizens of top ranked countries. This difference highlights the challenges Indian travelers continue to face, including lengthy visa processes and strict documentation requirements.
While India’s passport strength is improving year by year, it remains firmly in the middle tier globally. Significant diplomatic efforts and broader visa agreements will be needed for India to close the gap with the world’s most powerful passports.
