By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Oct 2025 12:08 PM ISTThe kind of confetti and overtly celebratory activities done by the Indian community in the United States has been leading to discussions in the recent past. Now, amidst the crackdown activities that are being taken up by the U.S. government, there’s the need for Indian population to be very vary of the situation.
Prasad Thotakura, a respected Telugu community leader from Dallas, Texas, has urged all Telugu non-resident Indians to act responsibly and follow the laws of the countries they live in.
He said NRIs represent India and the Telugu community, so their behavior abroad must reflect respect and discipline. Prasad emphasized showing proper respect to both the Indian and US national flags and singing the national anthems in the correct order with dignity.
He expressed concern over certain incidents where Telugu NRIs behaved carelessly during cultural events, movie premieres, and public celebrations. Activities like blocking roads during Ganesh processions, shouting loudly in theaters, or breaking coconuts near movie posters can create chaos and disturb others. Such acts not only damage the image of Indians but can also attract police attention and legal trouble.
It was advised that religious and cultural celebrations should take place in temples or designated venues, not on public roads or in residential areas.
He also reminded that in the United States, some people legally carry weapons, so unnecessary conflicts or disorderly conduct could lead to serious and unpredictable consequences.
