The Indian judicial system has been taking all the necessary measures to safeguard the female population from the existing scenarios in the marital system. Despite all the rules and regulations that are still multiple cases of women being harassed to death in marital disputes.

The shocking case of a 28 year old lady in Uttar Pradesh is a grave example of the same. She was humiliated by her parents-in-law and was even denied food as she was frequently tortured for dowry.

Police said a 28-page suicide note was recovered from the scene and has been taken into evidence as part of the investigation. The victim, Shifali Kesarwani, had been married to Gopal Kesari in Prayagraj, on May 7, barely two months before her death.

The woman's brother Vikas Kesarwani alleged that her husband, father-in-law Kamal Kesari, mother-in-law Asha Devi and brother-in-law Arun Kesari had been demanding an additional Rs 5 lakh in cash and a four-wheeler after the marriage.

According to the complaint, Shifali returned to her parental home on May 11 and informed her family about the alleged dowry-related pressure. She was later sent back to her matrimonial home after relatives attempted to resolve the dispute. However, the harassment continued and she simply couldn’t take it anymore.

This is not just an individual case of harassment after marriage in this country, but a problem at large. Despite all the educational factors that are going into maintenance of proper marital system, people are still falling prey.

Perhaps more strict regulations with regard to domestic violence and subsequent deaths is needed at the Indian judiciary level. It is fact that there are a few exploitation that are done here, but more than that, a life must be saved at all cost from culprits like these.
