Competitive exams are very tough to crack. Very often we get to hear about malpractices in the exams. Telangana State Public Service Commission exam paper leak created a sensation back then. A probe was launched to look into the case. Now a big step was taken to tackle the malpractices in competitive exams.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh tabled the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha which aims at dealing with the malpractices with an iron fist. If proven guilty would face a jail term of 10 years maximum and a fine of R 1 crore.

Besides focusing on transparency in exams, the bill also acts against the organised gangs and mafia elements that will be involved in the malpractices. However, it is said that students might be exempted from this.

On the other hand, the bill also says that a high-level technical committee which focuses on having IT security systems so that we can have electronic surveillance at the exam centres.

Many say that the bill aims at giving assurance to aspirants that the hard work and efforts they put in for the exams will not go in vain and their future is safe.

The bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha at the time when the recruitment exams were subjected to leakage and the exams were canceled. Even the Teacher exams were canceled. Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, and other states saw such things.
