They even tried to saffronize Muslim places and names too. They renamed a lot of cities, roads, buildings and many more. They changed Port Blair's name in Andaman Nicobar Islands to Sri Vijayapuram. Over the past 10 years, a lot of famous places and buildings have been renamed.
Allahabad is the place where Godavari, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers merge and it has been changed to Prayag Raj. Allahabad is the place with which India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru had close connections. It is a place where Lal Bahadur Sastry, PV Singh and Amitabh Bachchan represented as MPs. Allahabad High Court is famous for sensational cases. They are the ones who gave the verdict that Indira Gandhi's election is ineligible. Lord Sri Ram's birthplace used to be in Faizabad and the district has been renamed as Ayodhya completely. Gurgaon has been renamed as Guru Gram.
We used to study 'Rajamahendravaram' in textbooks but the British twisted it and started calling it 'Rajahmundry'. In 2015, the name has been changed to Rajamahendravaram. Untari in Jharkhand has been renamed as Shri Banshidhar Nagar while Chhattisgarh capital became Atal Bihari Vajpayee Nagar. Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad became Narmadapuram. Aurangabad turned into Chatrapati Shambaji Nagar. Usmanabad became Dhara Shiv and Race Course Road where Prime Minister's house is situated became Lok Kalyan Marg.
King Gorge's statue has been removed from India Gate and Netaji's statue was placed. Three islands in the Andaman Nicobar group were named after writings in Subhash Chandra Bose's books. Neel Island became Shaheed Dweep, Havelock Island became Swaraj Dweep and Ross Island turned into Subhash Chandrabose Island. There is a lot of criticism about this too and some say that the government is basing its actions on religious inclination more than being secular.
