Team India suffered a massive defeat in the World Cup 2023 it hosted. Fans pinned high hopes on seeing India lifting the trophy. However, that did not happen. It appears that fans came out of the defeat as the ongoing T20 series against Australia is getting a good response be it the viewership or the attendance in the stadium.

After the World Cup defeat a debate was started on what would be the future of star players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and head coach Rahul Dravid who took a break from the series. While Virat and Rohit are not part of the T20 squad, VVS Laxman is with the Indian team as the head coach for the ongoing series.

Now what we are hearing is that Rahul Darvid's tenure as the head coach is likely to be extended for two more years. It is said that the cricket governing body in India Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) offered Rahul Dravid a Contract Extension for a couple of years.

However, Rahul Dravid is yet to take a call on this. We have to wait and see what Rahul Dravid will say to the alleged extension. If he says yes to this then he will join the Indian team for the South Africa series under which T20s, ODIs, and Tests will be played.

BCCI should get clarity on the head coach as early as possible as the T20 World Cup is slated to commence next year. Once the coach is finalized the team can focus on the short format to make the playing XI and the squad.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure has been a rollercoaster ride so far. After India was knocked out of the 2021 T20 World Cup, he was given the big post replacing Ravi Shastri. India reached the semis in the 2022 T20 World Cup and lost the WTC Final and World Cup 2023.

His tenure also saw a few highs as India dominated the Asia Cup and lifted the trophy. India crushed the arch-rivals Pakistan by a big margin and won the final with 10 wickets against Sri Lanka.
