Rai is the son of Winston Benjamin, a former West Indies player. The fast bowler represented his team in Tests and ODIs and took 161 wickets overall. Rai, who was born and brought up in the US, played Cricket and Football. However, the coaches felt that Rai belongs to the track but not the field. Rai worked hard and became an athlete.
