Actress Nabbed With Gold Belt At Airport!

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has landed in serious trouble after being arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. Ranya was caught smuggling 14.8 kg of gold, valued at approximately Rs 12.5 crore. The gold was cleverly hidden in a custom-made belt worn around her body, with an additional 800 grams concealed in her clothing.

The arrest took place on Monday night, after DRI officials, acting on a tip-off, intercepted Ranya when she arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight. Due to her frequent international travel, she had been under surveillance for a while. During interrogation, Ranya reportedly claimed she was forced into smuggling and even tried to use her influence, falsely claiming to be the daughter of Karnataka’s DGP to escape scrutiny at the airport.

Following her arrest, Ranya was produced before the Special Court for Economic Offences on March 4 and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Officials are now investigating her possible links to a larger smuggling network operating between Dubai and India. The probe is also looking into whether any local police officials were misled or involved in helping her movement through the airport.

Ranya Rao, who made her debut in Maanikya alongside Sudeep and later acted in Pataki and Wagah, was considered a rising talent in South Indian cinema. However, this shocking smuggling scandal has put her career and reputation at stake. Meanwhile, DGP Ramachandra Rao has officially denied any connection with the actress, clarifying that she had not visited their home since her marriage four months ago.
