The Telangana Congress, especially chief minister Revanth Reddy, is finding itself in a piquant position over allocation of the party tickets for Rajya Sabha. Three seats are going to fall vacant in April and the Congress is in a position to win two seats and the BRS one.

Revanth wanted to accommodate someone from among the local biggies like Jana Reddy, Renuka Chowdary and former minister Chinna Reddy.

However, it now emerges that the Congress high command has indicated that it wants both the seats to accommodate national leaders. Given the Congress position in the state assemblies, the party is finding it extremely difficult to accommodate some key leaders. Reports say that the party wants to accommodate student and youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar and official spokesperson Supriya Srinate.

It feels that the presence of vocal Modi baiters with known articulate skills would create a buzz against the Modi government in Rajya Sabha.

Agreeing to this proposal would only mean further alienation of the local biggies, who are already sulking at Revanth Reddy becoming the chief minister.

These leaders could make it difficult for Revanth Reddy in Telangana. Also, both the BRS and the BJP would accuse the local Congress and Chief Minister Revanth of being a mere puppet in the hands of the High Command. Revanth Reddy is now finding ways and means to accommodate at least one local leader in the Rajya Sabha. However, things are not going to be easy for him.

Kanhaiya Kumar, an AISF leader, made a name for himself with his scintillating attacks on Modi in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Later, he joined the Congress and unsuccessfully contested from Bihar. He was also a part of the Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodi yatra.

Supriya is a journalist-turned-politician. Her father is a diehard Congress leader and her presence too is likely add to the Congress Party’s attack brigade in the Rajya Sabha.
