By: Tupaki Desk | 15 July 2025 11:04 AM ISTIndia has a large country with a massive volume of bachelorhood population. In this context, let us have a look at the numerical report on the number of men who have not yet gotten married and the statistical observation regarding the same.
According to the National Sample Survey conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in 2019, there has been a noticeable rise in the number of unmarried people in India, especially among the youth.
The survey reveals that the percentage of unmarried individuals in the 1529 age group increased significantly over the years. Among men, it rose from 20.8% to 26.1%, and among women, it increased from 13.5% to 19.9%.
The trend reflects a growing delay in marriage, largely due to changing social and economic conditions. Many young people are prioritizing education, career goals, and financial stability before settling down. There is also a rise in the average age of first marriage across the country.
Though this trend is slightly less prominent in Andhra Pradesh compared to some other states, the overall pattern remains consistent. Experts believe that modernization, better access to education, and increased awareness about personal freedom and choice are contributing to this shift.
Andhra Pradesh has 43% unmarried men while Telangana has around 47%. It is interesting, not that one Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh is significantly less affected by this phenomena than the other Telugu state of Telangana.
In summary, India is witnessing a steady increase in the number of unmarried individuals, with youth now choosing to marry later than in previous generations.
