India is one of the very few countries in the world that pays top respect to the prospect of marriage and the subsequent Hindu rituals. But in the recent past, the divorce rates have been going up and now let us have a look at the set of shocks associated with the same.

Divorce trends in India show some clear patterns in recent years. The average age of men who file for divorce is around 36 years. For women, the average age is about 31 years. This means many couples are choosing to separate in their early and mid thirties, after a few years of marriage.

Six states report the highest number of divorce cases in the country. These are Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Most of these states have large cities and fast urban growth. Experts believe that busy lifestyles, work pressure and changing views about marriage may be influencing these numbers.

The main reasons for divorce include adultery, cruelty, domestic violence, frequent arguments and mutual consent. Serious issues like violence and cheating remain major causes. At the same time, many couples are also deciding together to end their marriage peacefully when they feel they are not compatible.

Another important point is that about 40 percent of marriages that end in divorce break down within the first three years. The early stage of marriage can be challenging, with adjustment problems, financial stress and personal differences.
