It is the dream of many young professionals to secure a job at TCS, one of India’s leading IT companies. Many people are curious about the company’s salary structure and employee benefits. But have you ever wondered how much TCS paid its employees 40 years ago? Recently, a retired IAS officer took to the social media platform 'X' to share his 40-year-old TCS offer letter, which detailed his salary and benefits. The post quickly went viral, sparking discussions.

"Forty years ago, I was selected through a campus placement at IIT BHU. My first job was at TCS, Mumbai, where I received a salary of Rs. 1,300. Back then, it was considered a handsome amount," recalled retired IAS officer Rohit Kumar Singh, reflecting on his early career. He fondly shared how mesmerizing it was to work on the 11th floor of the Air India building at Nariman Point, with views of the sea. Singh also posted a photo of his TCS offer letter. When asked by a user about his first-month salary as an IAS officer, he replied, "Rs. 2,200." Another user cheekily asked if he would join TCS again, given the chance.

Singh, who completed his Electrical Engineering from IIT BHU, began his career at TCS's Mumbai campus. After a brief stint there, he moved to New York to pursue a degree in computer engineering at Clarkson University. He later cleared the UPSC exams and is currently serving in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC). His journey from TCS to IAS has captivated many on social media.
