After a long time, India hosted the World Cup. The last time India hosted the World Cup was in 2011 and we lifted the trophy. So fans predicted that history will repeat this time as well. But fate had other plans. Team India led by Rohit Sharma won ten consecutive matches and lost the finals.

Australia which won the 2023 World Cup is the sixth trophy to its name. The players broke into celebrations having won the glorious trophy. However, Mitchell Marsh's celebrations kickstarted a controversy as he was spotted resting his feet on the World Cup.

Indian star bowler Mohammed Shami who ended the World Cup tournament as the leading wicket-taker responded to the criticism and said that he should have not done it.

When asked to respond to the controversy, Shami said he was hurt by what Mitchell Marsh did. Adding further the speedster said that the trophy is something that needs to be lifted on the head and not placed the legs on the trophy. I did not like what he did, I was hurt, he said.

"I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy," Mohammed Shami said responding to the ongoing controversy.

The controversy started when Australian player Mitchell Marsh was spotted placing his feet on the World Cup trophy as part of the celebrations. A few former players also took objections to what the Australian player did.
