The divided Andhra Pradesh was offered a special status due to the bifurcation. However, it was not implemented due to various reasons. The special status also became a big aspect in the 2019 elections. The then-opposition YCP said that the ruling TDP ignored the special status and would fight with the Centre for this and YCP came to power. But we are not seeing any signs of special status coming to the state any time soon.

The special status issue is getting all the attention in the state ahead of the elections with YS Sharmila using it to attack her brother YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. She has been saying that Jagan compromised on the special status.

Earlier she said that Jagan did not fight hard for the special status after coming to power. Recently, she met a Jagan fan who showed Sharmila his tattoo of Jagan. In response, she said that she too likes Jagan but compromising on the special status is not good.

Now Sharmila used the special status to target the YCP on the liquor brands. She said that the state wants special status but we have only the brand. We don't know whether they brought special status or not. But a special status brand was brought, she said.

Recalling a meeting with a person who has a drinking habit, Sharmila said that people are abusing the government for providing cheap liquor and taking more money than the actual price.

Adding further, Sharmila also said that the licenses are given to people who are close to the party. She asked why online payments were not allowed in the state when the whole nation was moving towards online payments.

Sharmila came down severely on the liquor mafia and said that liquor consumption increased in the state and we have brands like Boom Boom and Special Status.
