Shreyas Iyer Replacing Rohit Sharma? What’s The Reaction?

It is already known that Shreyas Iyer has been excluded from the team India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. In the main Mahi have been speculations about Shreyas Iyer, possibly replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian ODI team.

This replacement could be happening even before the upcoming cricket World Cup in 2027, which Rohit Sharma intended to play in the first place.

Coming to the topic, Shreyas Iyer’s father Santhosh Iyer has revealed the initial reaction of the former to his shocking exclusion from the T20 side ahead of the Asia Cup.

I don’t know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024, and led PBKS to the final this year, Iyer’s father said in an interaction with a media house.

Then came the emotional statement from him as he said “I’m not saying make him the Indian captain but at least select him in the team.

Coming to Shreyas’s first reaction after the announcement of the squad, his father said “Even if he's left out of the team, he doesn't show dissent on his face. He'll just say that’s how his luck is. You can't do anything now'.”

Iyer’s father further added that he’s always cool & calm. He doesn't blame anybody but Deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed.

It appears that Shreyas had a rather mature reaction to this shocking decision, but he is a sportive guy by nature and is bound to overcome the same. In the meanwhile, there are reports that Shreyas could be appointed as the full-time captain of the Indian ODI side henceforth.
