By: Tupaki Desk | 4 April 2026 3:42 PM ISTThe opening round of the IPL games for the year 2026 have been completed already with all the teams having played at least one match each. Now the discussion has started about one possible player who could be missing the upcoming game and let us have a look into the story.
Indian Premier League authorities have issued a stern warning to Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, after his side committed a second slow over rate violation this season.
During the recent clash against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai, PBKS failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time. As this marked the team’s second offence under the league’s code of conduct, Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh.
The rest of the playing eleven, including the impact player, were also penalized with fines amounting to either Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee.
Earlier in the season, Iyer had already been fined Rs 12 lakh after PBKS committed a similar offence in their opening match against Gujarat Titans.
As per IPL regulations, a third slow over rate violation by Punjab Kings this season will lead to stricter punishment. If the breach happens again, Shreyas Iyer will face a one match suspension along with an increased fine of Rs 30 lakh.
For now, it stands as a warning, but the margin for error has clearly narrowed for the PBKS skipper.
