Can Spring-Loaded Fans Stop Student Suicides?

Mental health and well-being are very crucial. But unfortunately, people won't focus on this. Students go through a lot of pressure due to various reasons. Unable to cope up with this, students take the extreme step. Recently, we have seen how a few medical students passed away by suicide.

The trend of students taking extreme step is also very high in Kota, which is famous for coaching centres. Students from various parts of the country go to Kota to take coaching classes. Due to various reasons, they go under pressure and end up taking extreme step.

As a harsh example of this, as many as 22 students died by suicide already this year. We are just 18 days into the month and four students already died. In the latest incident, an 18-year-old student died by suicide earlier this week. He was preparing for exams in Kota.

As students are committing suicide by hanging, the administration in Kota reportedly came up with a controversial idea to beat this. In place of ceiling fans, spring-loaded fans were asked to be installed in hostels and PGs in Kota as a safety measure.

Media reports say that the orders were issued by the Kota district collector who directed the authorities to look into this. However, the alleged order raised many eyeballs and developed new doubts about whether the idea would stop the suicides.

Many have doubts that can the new decision can stop suicide and change the minds of students who go for the extreme step, unable to deal with their issues.

It is also said that the new fans would have sensors and if any weight is hanged then the alarm will start and others will be alerted. Let us wait and see how the new fans would work.
