Sudha Murty a celebrated Philanthropist who often hits the headlines for her humanitarian work is in the news for the wrong reasons. The post she shared on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on the history of the festival landed her in big trouble and she was trolled.

The Rajya Sabha member said that the tradition of celebrating the festival goes back to Mughal ruler Humayun as Rani Karnavati had sent her a thread seeking his help. However, this did not go well with many.

Sudha Murty who has been facing a lot of trolling had reacted to the issue. The Philanthropist said that the story she shared on Raksha Bandhan is one of the tales associated with the origin of the festival.

She said that her intention was to highlight one of the stories she heard while she grew up. Calling Raksha Bandhan a much old tradition which transcended time and culture Sudha Murty said that she is feeling proud of taking forward the tradition as she celebrated it with her siblings.

India is a land of traditions and customs. The festivals are celebrated by various beliefs in the land. If we take Raksha Bandhan and Diwali as examples, the festivals are celebrated by people across the world and beliefs. There are various stories associated with the festivals.

The same happened with Raksha Bandhan. A majority of people believe that the tradition goes back to Mahabharat days as Lord Krishna celebrated Rakhi with his sister Subhadra and it is when the tradition started. But Sudha Murty linking the festival to the Mughal leader started a big row.

Talking about the story mentioned by Sudha Murty there is a legend that says Rani Karnavati had sent a thread to King Humayun seeking his help. As he did not know what it was he was told about the significance. By the time he reached her Kingdom, it was late. However, he helped Karnavati’s son.
