The Enforcement Directorate(ED) has been facing allegations that it has become a puppet in the hands of the rulers. There are also allegations that the ruling party uses it to harass the opponent party leaders.

Amid this, the Supreme Court made crucial comments on the ED. The Apex Court said that ED should not indulge in retaliations during the case investigation and should act as per the law. Hearing a petition on the Money Laundering case of M3M company based in Gurugram, the Supreme Court made these comments. The Court quashed the arrest of M3M Company directors Pankaj and Basant Bansal. They were granted a bail.

ED officers filed a case against M3M Directors Pankaj and Basant Bansal in connection with an alleged Money Laundering case. ED officers conducted raids at officers and houses of the Bansal brothers on the 1st of June. With this, they moved the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The Court said that the bothers should not be arrested till the 5th of July. Despite the court orders, ED arrested him on June 14th.

The Bansal brothers challenged this in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court heard the petition and granted bail for them. On the occasion, the two-judge bench of the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with ED Officers actions.

Supreme Court said that the actions of ED should be transparent and fair. It said that the investigation agency did not follow the standards in following the powers and functions. The bench said that ED should not be vindictive. Ed should act transparent and fair, it said.

The Supreme Court observed that it was not appreciable that ED arrested them as they could answer the questions. They can be arrested if there is strong evidence to prove that they indulge in chrome under the Money Laundering Act. Supreme Court said that they cannot arrest for not responding to the summons. It said that the accused have to be told why they were arrested and the officers to tell this in writing. Saying that the arrest of the Bansal brothers was against the law, the Supreme Court ordered their release.
