It is already known that the Indian cricket team made the entire nation proud by winning the World Cup recently. However, there has been such negative talk after the Indian team took the T20 World Cup trophy to a temple.

A controversy has emerged in Indian cricket after comments made by Trinamool Congress MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad about Team India’s T20 World Cup celebrations drew a strong response from India head coach Gautam Gambhir.

The issue began after the Indian team celebrated their victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Following the win, members of the team management, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, coach Gambhir and ICC chairman Jay Shah, visited a Hanuman temple in Ahmedabad with the trophy to offer prayers.

Kirti Azad criticised the move and questioned why the trophy was taken only to a temple and not to other places of worship such as mosques, churches or gurudwaras. He argued that the trophy belongs to all Indians regardless of religion.

Responding to the criticism in an interview, Gautam Gambhir dismissed the remarks and said they were not worth answering. He stated that such statements undermine the players and the team.

Gambhir said it was a proud moment for the entire country and the focus should remain on celebrating the achievement rather than creating controversy.

The head coach added that the players had gone through immense pressure during the tournament and comments like these only dilute their hard work and achievements.

The exchange has sparked debate on social media, with many fans supporting the team’s celebration while others discussed the broader question of inclusivity in national sporting moments.
