Known for his public-focused approach, Sajjanar has initiated legal actions against individuals using their social media platforms to encourage betting activities. This crackdown has already seen popular figures like YouTubers Bayya Sunny Yadav and Harsha Sai facing charges laid by the Telangana police for their involvement in promoting betting applications.
The Punjagutta police have further expanded this crackdown, booking 11 more social media influencers for similar offenses. Among those implicated are well-known personalities such as anchor Shyamala, Vishnupriya, Supritha, Ritu Chaudhary, Harshasai, Tasty Teja, Pareshan Boys Imran, Kiran Goud, Ajay, Sunny, and Sudheer. These individuals find themselves accused under Sections 318(4) of the BNS, alongside Sections 3, 3(A), and 4 of the Telangana State Gaming Act, and Section 66D of the IT Act, 2008. This legal action underscores the Telangana government's commitment to eradicating the promotion of gambling through social media.
The onset of this legal battle against betting promotions on social media platforms stems from the influencers' assertions of earning significant money through gambling. Such claims have had a detrimental effect on the public, enticing many to partake in gambling, thereby risking financial stability and well-being. The government's response to this issue has been swift and decisive, aiming to curb the influence of betting culture among the masses.
This campaign against betting is a commendable move by the Telangana government, showcasing their dedication to safeguarding public interests. The legal repercussions faced by the influencers serve as a stern warning to others about the serious consequences of promoting gambling. As the authorities proceed with their actions, it's clear that the drive to dissuade betting is gaining momentum, reflecting the government's firm stance on preserving societal values against the perils of gambling.
