It’s Official: Telangana Local Elections Postponed!
This comes shortly after the Telangana High Court had imposed a day order on the GO number 9 that was processed by the Telangana government.
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 Oct 2025 10:04 AM ISTThe inevitable has happened as the Telangana election commission has postponed the local body elections after the High Court imposed a stay order on the same.
According to the latest developments, the Telangana State Election Commission notification dated October 9, 2025, suspended the election schedule for Gram Panchayats, Mandal Praja Parishads, and Zilla Praja Parishads until further notice.
This comes shortly after the Telangana High Court had imposed a day order on the GO number 9 that was processed by the Telangana government. This GO granted 42% reservation to the BC community in Telangana Local body elections and it was put on hold by the High Court.
This suspension follows a Telangana High Court interim stay on the government's order for 42% reservation for Backward Classes in local body polls, challenged via petitions over its legality and implementation.
Originally set for phased voting starting October 31, 2025, the halt delays rural elections amid debates from the ruling Congress party and the opposition, BJP and BRS. It has to be seen when the next schedule for the local body elections will be released by the Election commission in the near future.
On the other hand, the Jubilee Hills by election, which is scheduled to be held on November 11 will be progressing as expected. This result will be out on November 14.
