Dallas Puram Atrocities: Telugu Community Must Change?

The Telugu community in the United States has been facing several complaints about overdoing certain activities which is landing in the negative direction with the United States authorities.

There’s a saying “Too much of anything is bad.” Whatever we do in life, we must follow limits and rules. But unfortunately, some of our people tend to go overboard, even when living abroad. In the United States, especially during Trump’s leadership, things are stricter than ever.

Still, some Indian immigrants behave as if they are back in India, ignoring the laws and culture of the country.

Lately, some Telugu people in the US, particularly in cities like Dallas, are drawing attention and criticism. For instance, they are renaming parts of the city informally as “Dallaspuram” and posting videos dancing and behaving recklessly on the streets for social media reels.

When locals object, instead of understanding, some react with anger and call it an attack on Indian culture. One recent incident even involved a white American telling a Telugu person, “Go back to India,” which went viral online.

Why do we go to the US in the first place? Most Indian parents invest lakhs of rupees for their children’s future, higher education, H1B visa, green card, and citizenship. But actions like these damage that very goal. Authorities are now reportedly keeping an eye on non-immigrant visa holders and their social media activities. Some may even face legal notices.

Even in business, like the growing biryani craze in Dallas, there’s nothing wrong with success, but promoting it as “Dallaspuram” can be problematic.

Indians in America must act responsibly, respect local rules and culture, and think before posting online. Careless behavior can threaten their own future and this isn’t something to joke about.
