Finally, US trend going down in Telugu States?
The Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been extremely exponential when it comes to contributing to the international student community.
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 July 2025 11:59 AM ISTThe Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been extremely exponential when it comes to contributing to the international student community. It is a fact that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been recording some of the highest number of students going to the United States for higher studies.
In recent times, the interest of Indian, especially Telugu-speaking students and families, in going to the U.S. has reduced. In 2024, there was a 27% drop in the number of Indian students going abroad, with the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. seeing big declines. Many are now exploring other countries like Germany, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh for education and job opportunities.
One major reason is the rising cost of studying and living in the U.S., along with fewer job openings and tough competition. Many students who are already in the U.S. are telling others back home that it’s not as easy or rewarding as before. There are also visa delays, high rejections, and strict rules, which are making people think twice.
In tech fields, especially in states like Texas and Illinois, many students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are struggling to find good jobs or internships. Pay is low, and many end up with part-time or unrelated work.
Consultants say that the number of U.S. applicants has fallen sharply, while countries in Europe and the Middle East are gaining more interest. Overall, the American Dream is no longer as attractive as it once was for many young Indians.
