It is already known that the Indian community, including the student community has been facing a tough time in the United States due to the prevailing situations.

Now, a journalist from Texas named Sara Gonzales has exposed what she calls a scam targeting international students in the United States.

The issue mainly affects students on Optional Practical Training and STEM OPT extensions, who are allowed to work in the US after completing their studies.

In her recent YouTube video, Gonzales explained that some recruiters based in India are allegedly cheating students. These recruiters post Indian phone numbers on social media and ask students on F 1 visas to contact them for job and visa support. They promise to provide employment letters and help extend visa status.

To investigate, Gonzales’s team called one of these recruiters pretending to be a student. The recruiter claimed to represent a US registered company and offered to give an employment letter without asking for a resume, interview, or any proof of skills.

He asked for 1,000 dollars upfront. He also demanded 30 percent of the student’s monthly salary, allowing the student to keep only 70 percent.

Gonzales pointed out that under US immigration rules, employers are not allowed to take a share of a worker’s salary in this way. She warned that students who agree to such deals could risk losing their visa status and facing serious legal trouble.
