Trump Pharma Cyclone: India To Face Music?

It is already known that India is one of the biggest exporters of pharmaceuticals to the United States, and it has been this way for several decades now. But considering the latest decision from United States, president of Donald Trump, things could start to get very tricky.

In his latest communication, Trump communicated that he would be imposing 100 percent tariff on imported pharmaceuticals which would ultimately hit India as well.

In his elaborate social media statement, Donald Trump wrote “Starting October 1st, 2025, we will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented Pharmaceutical Product, unless a Company IS BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America.

"IS BUILDING" will be defined as, "breaking ground" and/or "under construction."

There will, therefore, be no Tariff on these Pharmaceutical Products if construction has started. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” Trump wrote.

This communication from Trump about the imposition of hundred percent tariff on branded pharmaceuticals is going to be largely consequential on the medical field in the U.S.

This is one of the most radical decisions taken by the United States president, and there could be pretty significant consequences as the pharma and medical industry will now start to take a hit.
