The onset of the Donald J Trump administration is getting off to a sensational start. In his first line of duty, Trump signed an executive order that amends the incumbent birthright citizenship act in the United States. This new executive order confirms that the birthright citizenship act, which grants US passport to anyone who is born on American soil will no longer be valid.

The new Executive order implies that the automatic citizenship that is granted to newborn child on the American soil will no longer be in effect. This directly affect thousands of Indian citizens and global immigrants who are hopeful of gaining citizenship to their kids.

However, this new amendment by the Trump administration is immediately met with great Revolt by the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU).

The statement from the ED of ACLU read “Denying citizenship to U.S.-born children is not only unconstitutional - it's also a reckless and ruthless repudiation of American values”.

It is further added that “Birthright citizenship is part of what makes the United States the strong and dynamic nation that it is. This order seeks to repeat one of the gravest errors in American history, by creating a permanent subclass of people born in the U.S. who are denied full rights as Americans. We will not let this attack on newborns and future generations of Americans go unchallenged. The Trump administration's overreach is so egregious that we are confident we will ultimately prevail.”

It is pretty evident that the birth citizenship amendment done by Trump has been made with immense criticism and legal recourse. It has to be seen how this amendment will shape up now, considering the fact that it directly affects the lives of thousands of Indians in the USA.
