H1B Fiasco: Companies Facing Heat!
The H 1B visa programme, once a major gateway for Indian IT professionals to work in the United States
By: Tupaki Desk | 9 Dec 2025 6:09 PM ISTThe United States administration under the presidency of Ronaldo, Trump has started to take several radical decisions with regard to immigration policies. This has reached a new peak point as the Donald Trump administration has imposed a new price hike on H1B Visa.
The H 1B visa programme, once a major gateway for Indian IT professionals to work in the United States, is facing a sharp slowdown that is worrying both employees and large technology companies.
Recent data shows that some of the biggest global IT giants together received only about 4,573 H 1B visas, a steep fall compared to previous years. This sudden dip highlights how challenging the current environment has become for companies that depend heavily on skilled foreign talent.
Several factors are contributing to this decline. The United States has tightened scrutiny around H 1B applications, with stricter compliance checks and higher rejection rates.
At the same time, ongoing layoffs in the tech sector and uncertainty in the global economy have reduced the appetite of companies to sponsor new visas. Many firms are also shifting focus toward local hiring or moving certain operations to countries where talent is more easily available.
For thousands of Indian professionals, this trend has created anxiety and stalled career plans. Students graduating from US universities and employees awaiting extensions or transfers are especially affected. The situation also impacts India based IT companies, which have traditionally used the H 1B route to support onsite projects.
Overall, the sharp fall in H 1B approvals signals a major shift in the US tech hiring landscape, forcing companies and professionals alike to rethink long term strategies
