Only Way For Trump To Reduce Tariffs On India?

By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Aug 2025 6:26 PM ISTDonald Trump is going all out when it comes to the tariff war against India as he had already imposed 50% tariff on Indian products. It appears that there is only one solution for this situation now and here is a look into the story.
Donald Trump recently said that the high tariffs placed on Indian goods might be removed if there is a peace agreement with Russia. Right now, Indian products face a total 50% tariff in the U.S. 25% as a “reciprocal tariff” and an extra 25% due to India’s continued trade with Russia, especially oil imports.
Trump stated that if Russia agrees to end the war in Ukraine through a proper agreement, the U.S. may consider removing these tariffs on India. However, no such deal with Russia has been made yet, and the tariffs are still active.
India and Russia continue strong trade relations, mainly in energy. This has created tension between India and the U.S., even though both countries are strategic partners. Trump’s recent comments have raised many questions about whether India is being pressured to reduce its dealings with Moscow.
In short, the U.S. tariffs on India are currently in place. Trump suggested they might go away if there is peace with Russia, but nothing has changed so far. Until an actual agreement is reached with Moscow, the high tariffs will continue to affect Indian exports to the U.S. and strain the relationship between the two nations.
It has to be seen if this solution can be found any time in the near future, as this appears to be the only way that Trump would to reduce the tariffs on India.
