According to reports, Trump alleged that Meloni was eager for a picture with him and suggested he agreed only because he felt sorry for her. Calling the remarks completely made up, Meloni said she was astonished by Trump’s comments and questioned why he treated allies in such a manner.

She also said it was disappointing that he appeared tougher on partners than on adversaries, adding, “There is one thing he should remember: neither I nor Italy ever beg.”

The internal conflict is such that Italy is now preparing to take corrective measures against the United States and is likely to restrict the diplomatic ties with the country.
