By: Tupaki Desk | 13 Aug 2025 12:40 PM ISTIt is already known that the United States president Donald Trump has called for a tariff war with India in view of the prevailing oil trade with Russia. The situation is starting to up by the day, and there have been several significant developments in this regard.
The latest news is that Donald Trump is set to host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a global summit that is set to happen in the United States and it is going to be one of the crucial coming together between these two global leaders.
Modi is expected to visit the United States in September 2025 to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. Reports say he will likely address the UN on September 26. During this trip, Modi may also meet U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss and try to solve the current trade tensions between the two countries.
In recent months, the U.S. has increased tariffs on Indian goods, with rates now around 50%, in response to India’s high import duties and its purchase of Russian oil. These measures have created friction in India–U.S. relations. Modi’s visit is seen as an opportunity to restart stalled trade talks and work toward reducing these barriers.
This visit comes just after the planned Trump and Putin summit in Alaska, which India supports as part of its call for peaceful conflict resolution. The final schedule for Modi’s trip is expected to be confirmed by the end of August.
