It is already known that the United States immigration authorities have been very particular about the green card scenarios. This is becoming increasingly tough now, as the Indian population is facing an extremely challenging situation in the US due to the changing regulations.

If things were not confusing enough in the first place, the Trump administration has taken another big decision with regard to the new regulations regarding the green card policy.

The Trump administration will begin considering some immigrants' use of Medicaid, food stamps and housing assistance when deciding whether to approve green card applications.

Immigration officers will now be allowed to weigh an applicant's use of certain public benefits, along with factors like age, health, income, education and work history. The Department of Homeland Security says the change restores the principle that immigrants should be able to support themselves without relying on taxpayers.

The rule is expected to take effect next week and could affect roughly 588,000 people applying for green cards each year. This would potentially include the Indian population as well, and this is a pretty significant piece of information.

What this would also mean is that Indian population will have to be socially responsible in the United States and take party in the philanthropy activities if they are to be in the front line for the green card policy.

With Trump and his administration, starting to change the visa rules, almost on a daily basis, it is hard for Indians or any other international immigrants to keep track of what is happening. But sadly, that is how things are going to be in the near future as well.
