UK PM Keir Starmer Resigning: What’s Happening There?

The United Kingdom is one of the most politically and socially advanced countries in the world, but they have been witnessing extreme political turmoil in the recent past. We could possibly witnessing the seventh Prime Minister to step down in the UK in the last decade.

Then incumbent prime minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer has officially stepped down from his position today with a public communication to the people of the country.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer said he would step down as both Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party and he will remain in office until a successor is elected.

His resignation comes amid growing pressure within Labour following a series of disappointing election results and declining support for the government. Former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is among the names being mentioned as a potential successor and the final call is bound to be taken shortly.

If a new leader is chosen in the coming months, Britain will have had its seventh prime minister in just ten years. It is evident that the United Kingdom is facing a serious leadership crisis with inadequate people holding the position.

In his resignation speech, the United Kingdom president made it very clear that he wishes to spend time with his family from now on.

"I shall spend more time on the most important job. Being the best husband I can to my fantastic wife Vic... and being best dad I can to my beautiful children, who have been my pride and joy" he communicated today.
