By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Oct 2025 12:55 PM ISTFor a long time now, the UK has been standing as one of the primary destinations for higher education and employment opportunities in competition with the United States. But things are not looking very promising for the interested patronage who are willing to fly to the UK.
The UK has announced tougher visa rules effective from January 8, 2026. All skilled worker applicants must now pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) proving skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening at the B2 level, equal to A-Level or Class 12.
The test must be taken through Home Office–approved centers. Other changes include reducing the Graduate Route stay from two years to 18 months, raising maintenance fund requirements, and increasing the Immigration Skills Charge by 32%.
The UK says these steps aim to control rising immigration and ensure stronger language proficiency among foreign workers and students.
The United Kingdom has been tightening the immigration policies in the recent past and it has reached a new high point now with this New restriction on examination policy.
That’s good, very well, instigate the Indian population to be more productive and attentive towards these examinations.
