This move is part of the state’s plan to create a Sports Hub and implement the TS Sports Policy 2025. Upasana will work alongside Chairman Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, a prominent businessman, and a team of sports legends and experts.
The board is made up of notable figures from various sports fields, including sports entrepreneur Vita Dani, sports management expert Kaviya Maran, infrastructure expert C Sasidhar, badminton star Pullela Gopichand, cricket legend Kapil Dev, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, football icon Baichung Bhutia, and several sports administrators such as Ravikanth Reddy and Biyyala Papa Rao. This is the first time in India that a state has formed such a diverse and influential board for sports governance.
The primary aim of the board is to ensure that sports funding is used effectively, to support young athletes, and to raise Telangana’s sports standards to an international level. This initiative also seeks to create a new sports ecosystem where sports entrepreneurs and players work together to build a market around sports, benefiting both players and the industry.
The Sports Hub is envisioned as the center of all sports activities in Telangana, and with the guidance of this experienced team, the state is determined to provide equal opportunities to every aspiring athlete. Telangana's sports minister expressed confidence that this new initiative will significantly transform the sports landscape in the state, ensuring that talented individuals have the resources and support to succeed.
