India Is Next Rival To USA? Why Is US Scared?

By: Tupaki Desk | 6 March 2026 5:25 PM ISTIt is already known that India had been emerging as one of the global superpowers in the recent times, and it appears that the United States is taking serious note of the same.
A major geopolitical debate has emerged after comments made by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. His remarks about India and China have sparked discussion among policymakers and analysts.
During his speech, Landau said the United States will not repeat the same economic and strategic mistakes it made with China in the past. He explained that when the U.S. opened its markets widely to China decades ago, it helped China grow into a powerful economic competitor to the United States.
Because of that experience, Washington plans to take a more cautious approach in its economic relationship with India.
Landau clarified that the United States still wants a strong partnership with India, especially in areas such as trade, defence cooperation, counterterrorism, and energy security.
However, he said any trade agreement between the two countries will be designed in a way that protects American economic interests first, reflecting the “America First” policy approach.
At the same time, the U.S. official acknowledged that India’s rise will play a major role in shaping the 21st century, and Washington wants to work with India rather than treat it as an adversary. He added that there are many “win win” opportunities for both nations if they cooperate strategically.
His comments come as India and the United States are currently discussing a new bilateral trade agreement, which could expand economic ties but under stricter conditions than those offered to China in the past.
