F1 Visa Holders Beware, US State Warns!
The University of Florida has issued a strong advisory asking F1 students to avoid international travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Nov 2025 11:54 AM ISTIt has become nearly impossible to estimate the decisions that are being taken by the Donald Trump administration in the United States. It has reached a point where the administration itself is confused about the travel patterns and advising Visa holders against international travel.
The University of Florida has issued a strong advisory asking F1 students to avoid international travel unless it is absolutely necessary. This alert comes at a time when the U.S. government is considering major changes to the current Duration of Status system, which allows students to stay in the country as long as they maintain valid academic status.
The proposed change would replace this with a fixed four year limit on the F1 visa, creating uncertainty for students who might cross that timeline during travel.
Because the rule is still under discussion and not yet finalized, there is confusion about how travel and re entry might be affected if the policy suddenly shifts.
Students who exceed the allowed duration in the future may be required to apply for extensions, face delays or encounter problems at the port of entry. This unpredictability is the main concern behind the University of Florida’s warning.
The university wants students to avoid unnecessary risk, especially those who are already close to completing four years on their visa. While nothing has officially changed yet, the uncertainty alone is enough to cause anxiety among international students. The advisory encourages them to stay cautious, stay informed and travel only if essential.
